Hiking week - National Park with Andrea Matossi
Programme in September
Swiss National Park at the start of the deer rut
Europe's oldest national park is definitely worth a visit, especially in autumn. You will gain an insight into the history, culture, flora and fauna of the Swiss National Park from local hiking guide Andrea Matossi. The starting and finishing point of each hike is the Hotel Belvedere in Scuol.
Sunday
Arrival
«Meet and greet», we meet at 4.00 pm in the lobby of the Hotel Belvedere to get to know each other and discuss the week. And, just to anticipate - all hikes can be shortened and modified so that all hikers get their fair share.
Monday
Margunet
The route via Margunet is frequently travelled. It has become even more famous due to the release of bearded vultures from 1991 to 2007.
Distance: 8 km, pure hiking time: 3 h, ascent: 450 m, descent: 480 m.
Tuesday
Val Mingèr
Switzerland's last bear was shot in Val Mingèr in 1904. Unfortunately, the Swiss National Park was only founded 10 years later. At Spiegelplatz we decide whether we want to walk to Tarasp.
Distance: 9 km (16 km to Tarasp), pure hiking time: 3 h, (5.5 h to Tarasp), ascent: 700 m, descent: 700 m.
Wednesday
Lais da Macun – or a day off
23 lakes, crystalline rocks, rare plant species and, last but not least, dragons and dwarves make Macun one of the pearls of the national park. The Macun lake district has been part of the Swiss National Park since 1 August 2000. We take a taxi for the first and last few metres, at a cost of around 50 per person. The hike via Macun is a long and demanding high mountain hike that is only suitable for hikers with stamina, sure-footedness and a head for heights.
Distance: 17 km, pure hiking time: 6 h, ascent: 800 m, descent: 1000 m.
Thursday
Munt la Schera
The hike leads through a steppe landscape that is atypical for Switzerland with wonderful views of the Italian Stelvio National Park to the south-east of the Schera area and interesting geological phenomena.
Distance: 13 km, pure hiking time: 4 h 45 min, ascent: 700 m, descent: 1000 m.
Friday
Around the National Park: Ofenpass - S-charl
We take the train to Zernez and then the postbus to Süsom Givé on the Ofen Pass. From here, a beautiful mountain trail leads through the highest Swiss stone pine forest in Europe to S-charl.
Distance: 16 km, pure hiking time: 5 h, ascent: 300 m, descent: 500 m.
Saturday
Mot Tavrü
The Val Tavrü has historical significance for the national park. Between 1911 and 1936, when it was part of the national park, it formed the boundary of our large protected area. Today, cows graze on the Tavrü Alp and the red deer retreat to the nearby Val Foraz during the day. They are usually easy to observe from Mot Tavrü.
Distance: 12 km, pure hiking time: 4 h, ascent: 600 m, descent: 600 m.
