StradivariFEST
Interview with Maja Weber
Every autumn, the StradivariFEST concert series comes to Scuol. The director, Maja Weber, talks about the upcoming StradivariFEST in an interview.
StradivariFEST packageMaja Weber, what can we expect this year at the StradivariFEST in and around Scuol?
There will once again be a varied programme. From duos to string and piano trios to string quartets. With Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms and Mendelssohn, we will take the audience on a musical journey to the historical monuments of the Lower Engadine.
Your concert programmes are usually designed in such a way that you only perform one composer per evening, as is the case in Scuol. What do you hope to gain from this?
That's right. We are increasingly focussing on individual composers because we as musicians - and the audience - can better engage with the musical language. The longer I play or listen to a composer's works, the more often I recognise their musical language and I have the feeling that I can follow what they are saying better. I think the audience feels the same and that's why we like to programme with the different composer portraits.
As the StradivariQuartett, you have worked intensively with composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Mendelssohn. In the coming season it will be Haydn, two of whose string quartets you will also be performing here in Scuol. What are you particularly looking forward to with Haydn?
Haydn is often referred to as the «father of the string quartet». It was therefore very obvious that we would focus on him sooner or later. The choice of string quartets is almost infinite and so we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves intensively in his musical language and the wide range of emotions from fresh, cheerful and virtuoso to tragic or stormy. I'm looking forward to this season!
You play together with other Stradivari musicians at the concerts. What is the best thing about making music with your colleagues?
The communication with each other. Making music in an ensemble is like a conversation. You should and must respond to each other, react and take responsibility yourself. It's important to be able to read and interpret your colleagues early on in order to provide ideal support.
What do you hope to gain from the concerts at StradivariFEST Scuol?
I hope for inspired listeners who I can pick up with as many different emotions as possible. Joyful faces, animated eyes and afterwards a warm atmosphere with lively conversations at the aperitif and the StradivariTABLES.
