Project «Lighthouse»
Energy-efficient hotels in the Grisons
The project «Lighthouse - Energy-efficient Hotels in the Grisons» was awarded the Milestone 2014 tourism prize in 2014. It shows hotels concrete ways to reduce their energy consumption and CO2 emissions while saving costs. The hotels participating in the project take part in the EnAW energy management system and work closely with an EnAW consultant. Hotels and tourism businesses from the canton of Graubünden have concluded a target agreement with the federal government with the support of the EnAW.
Since 2012, the BELVEDER HOTEL FAMILY has been a member of the «Lighthouse» project of the Energy Agency for Industry (EnAW). We are advised and accompanied in the measures to increase energy efficiency by an EnAW consultant. Through this cooperation, some renovation work has already been carried out with the success of reducing energy consumption. For example, we have changed the light sources in all hotels to LED lamps and installed presence sensors in the rooms. At the Badehotel Belvair, the renovation of windows and the boiler has reduced heating oil consumption by 15,000 litres per year. At the Hotel Belvedere, the entire façade and the roof were renewed in 2018. An overall solution for a more environmentally friendly heating of the three hotels is planned, but the conversion is not such an easy undertaking.
After these measures, the energy demand and CO2 emissions per overnight stay are 5.8 kg. This makes us one of the best hotels in Switzerland. With your contribution within the framework of «Cause We Care» for a more climate-neutral stay, a part is invested in local and a part in global climate protection projects. Another part is invested in further structural measures of the hotels to make our houses and thus your stay even more climate-friendly.
